We are here to help.
Where to start?
Many parents are unsure about therapy for their child and the steps to take towards seeking extra support for their child. It is common to feel this way and to feel overwhelmed by the many therapy resources to choose from. A good start is to:
Make sure the therapist is licensed, holds a master’s degree in WA and has experience providing support to children and/or adolescence.
Schedule a consultation call with the therapist to see if the therapist is a good fit for your child.
Invite your child to also speak with the therapist during the consultation to see if your child feels comfortable with the therapist.
Ask questions and encourage your child to ask questions too!
What is therapy like for children?
Therapy isn’t all talking. Child therapists offer interventions for children to take and use in their daily lives such as mindfulness skills, thought reframing exercises, and psychoeducation on developing a growth mindset.
Therapy can also be scary for parents and children because of the unknown outcome, and letting a new person into their personal lives. All of these worries and concerns are understood and valid. Our providers take extra care in creating a safe and confidential space for children and families to be vulnerable and to grow together.
What are some of the positives and challenges of beginning child and teen therapy?
There are many benefits to child and teen therapy such as helping your child deal with challenges that come their way. They can learn to better cope with difficult situations and uncomfortable emotions. Your child can also learn how to communicate and express themselves more clearly and effectively. Overall, your child can build and learn skills to live a healthier, more enjoyable life.
Although there are lots of benefits to therapy, there are some overcomeable challenges as well. Therapy is a financial investment into your child’s health. At Garden Counseling & Wellness Group, we understand that therapy expenses may not be affordable for every family. For this reason, we offer subsidized appointment rates to families in need.
Additionally, parents and/or their child must reserve time in their schedules to meet for consistent therapy appointments. Our office will try it’s best to find an appointment time that works best for you and your child.
